Woolworths poised for post-Christmas closure

It now seems certain that all of Woolworths’ 800-plus stores will close soon after Christmas.
Administrators Deloitte say that shops will start to shut down on December 27, with the rest following suit by January 5.

Deloitte is still trying to find a buyer for the stricken retailer but says that so far it has “not come close” to being successful.

The closure of Woolworths would mean the loss of around 30,000 employees. Other retailers have reportedly offered to take over the leases at about 300 stores.

Deloitte says it is “clear that [Woolworths’] creditors and suppliers will not get paid in full”.
