Weekly home sales up 4.1% for John Lewis

Liz Mihell, head of selling, at home, John Lewis commented: “In Home, there was further suggestion of the seasonal trends with outdoor furniture continuing its fantastic run. Beds and furniture also had a strong week and there were good results from the express curtain assortment. Sales of EHT [Electricals & Home Technology] were down 16.5% versus last year, reflecting that customers were busy preparing their wardrobes and homes for summer. But we did see some impressive responses to newness in product and also new elements of the proposition.”

The stand-out branch performance came from Peter Jones, up 13.4%, and there was a strong score from Stratford City, too, at 8.3% up. Newcastle, High Wycombe, Welwyn, Croydon and Cheadle also performed well.

For jl.com it was another solid week, with sales up 10.9%. “Clear promotional messaging and emphasis of the Edits and new season assortments have paid dividends,” Liz said.

She concluded: “With the weather seemingly set to fair for the time being, we have a fantastic opportunity to showcase summer.”
