Waterford Wedgwood attracts would-be buyers

Three potential buyers have come forward with a view to buying part or all of Waterford Wedgwood, the group’s administrator says.
However, Deloitte declined to name the parties interested in the company, which collapsed this week having racked up losses for six years and huge debt.

Meanwhile, efforts to save around 1,000 of the firm’s jobs in North Staffordshire are intensifying, and representatives of Unity and other unions have been in talks with Deloitte at Wedgwood’s Barlaston headquarters.

Workers at the company fear that if the business is sold as a going concern more jobs could move to Indonesia, where the company already makes much of its product.

Wedgwood should be celebrating its 250th anniversary this year.
