Total sales excluding fuel were up 20.7% at Waitrose last week (to March 26).
The supermarket chain said its trading performance was heavily influenced by the fall of Easter this year. Waitrose finance director Loraine Woodhouse noted that “a meaningful comparison shows that sales this year saw a 3.7% sales uplift on the equivalent week last year”.
She said Easter confectionery saw success, with sales increasing by 8% compared with the equivalent time last year.
Spring flowers were popular too, with overall horticulture sales up 10.3% compared with Easter week last year.
