Total sales excluding fuel at Waitrose & Partners were down 2.5% last week (to Saturday December 7) compared with the same week last year.
The supermarket chain’s commercial director Rupert Thomas said: “Good performers included party food and the return of our ‘10 Fine Wines at £10’ promotion. Both proved popular as customers took the opportunity to stock up for the party season.”
He added: “In time for Christmas, we are launching beetroot flavoured Quail eggs. The ‘free to fly’ British Quail eggs are lightly pickled in beetroot, giving them their vibrant purple hue and a subtle beetroot flavour.”
In a Christmas promotion, Waitrose & Partners is offering 10 wines at a special price of £10 in branches to December 17. The wines are a collection of customer favourites, representing a cross-section of regions and styles from around the globe
