The first cookbook by beauty, fashion and lifestyle vlogger Tanya Burr has leapt straight into the best sellers chart.
Published on June 30 by Penguin, ‘Tanya Bakes’ is number one in ‘The Mail on Sunday’ weekly list of the UK’s best-selling non-fiction hardback books.
Tanya is a leading English beauty, fashion and lifestyle vlogger, make-up artist and author. With nearly 3.5 million subscribers and 15 million monthly views, she is best known for her fashion and beauty channel on YouTube.
She has been making YouTube videos about beauty, fashion, baking and her life since October 2009 and has been writing a blog since March 2011.
She also has her own make-up line that she designs, Tanya Burr Cosmetics, sold in Superdrug. In January 2015 her first book, ‘Love, Tanya’, was published by Penguin. It is part-autobiographical and part-lifestyle guide, and due to the success of its baking chapter, Tanya wrote ‘Tanya Bakes’.
Within it she shares her passion for baking, along with her favourite recipes, from everyday staple bakes to sweet treats for special occasions.
Examples include Tanya’s Ultimate Celebration Cake, Banoffee Pie, Salted Caramel Cheesecake, Rhubarb and Custard Muffins, Earl Grey Tea Loaf, Tanya’s Nanny’s Apple Pie and Smarties Flapjacks.
At number two in the chart is ‘Cook Happy, Cook Healthy’ by TV and radio presenter Fearne Cotton. Her debut cookbook is billed as ‘full of easy, fast and healthy recipes for everything from breakfast and speedy suppers to baked treats’. Dishes include Quick Granola, Courgette Fritters with Herby Yoghurt Dip, Halloumi and Roasted Beetroot Salad, and Almond and Apricot Biscuits.
‘Nadiya’s Kitchen’ by 2015 ‘The Great British Bake Off’ winner Nadiya Hussain is in sixth place. It features 100 of Nadiya’s favourite family recipes. With chapters ranging from ‘Lazy Sunday Mornings’ and ‘Midnight Feasts’ to ‘Snacks and Sharing’ and ‘Dessert for Dinner’, she offers twists on traditional classics and recipes for staple meals and bakes.
Examples include Best Fish Finger Butty, Churros French Toast, Cod and Clementine Curry, Popcorn, White Chocolate and Peanut Slice, Za’atar and Lemon Palmiers, Sour Cherry and Almond Bundt Cake – and ‘Her Majesty’s Cake’ (Nadiya was asked to make a cake for the Queen’s 90th birthday).
For non-fiction paperbooks, fitness guru Joe Wicks (aka The Body Coach) leads the way, taking the top two spots. At number one is ‘Lean in 15 – The Shape Plan: 15 minute meals with workouts to build a strong, lean body’ which introduces a new way of eating and training to build lean muscle and burn more fat. In the book, he shares 100 recipes and four new workouts. At number two is ‘Lean In 15’, which features 100 recipes and guides the reader through Joe’s home workouts.
The third spot is held by ‘The 8-Week Blood Sugar Diet’ by Michael Mosley. In the book, the author of the best-selling ‘5:2 Fast Diet’ reveals ‘a game-changing approach to one of the greatest silent epidemics of our time: raised blood sugar levels’. The title is not just aimed at those at highest risk but at anyone who has struggled with their weight and wants to regain control of their health.
In sixth place is ‘The Hairy Dieters: Fast Food’ by celebrity cookery duo Si King and Dave Myers, which contains low-calorie recipes designed to be made in under 30 minutes. There are recipes for breakfast and brunch, soups, salads, mains and snacks, including Spicy Sweetcorn Fritters, Pasta with Chilli Prawns, Chicken Tagine and Instant Sorbet with Frozen Berries.
This list appeared in ‘The Mail on Sunday’s’ ‘Event’ magazine on July 10. The book charts are compiled by Nielsen Bookscan TCM, which collates real time sales from over 6,500 retailers, representing over 90% of the UK book market.
