Luxury kitchenware is enjoying a sales boost in the US, with some consumers now moving on from the recession-led back-to-basics trend.
According to the Luxury Report 2010 from US research body Unity Marketing, better-off shoppers have started to spend again on quality products – and luxury kitchenware is a particular beneficiary. The trend is expected to continue throughout the Christmas gift season.
Unity Marketing says that, in terms of spending, indulgent kitchenware was amongst the top growth categories in its luxury tracking study during the second quarter, suggesting that the sector could perform better than other gift categories this festive season.
Up-market small appliances are benefiting in particular, followed by bakeware, cutlery, barware, cookware and table linens. Two years ago consumers were focusing more on products such as basic cookie sheets and kitchen tools.
