Department store group John Lewis said it enjoyed ‘a superb week’s sales’, with double-digit increases posted by all three buying directorates, in the seven days to August 23.
Sales for the period increased by 12.6% on last year. Fashion saw the fastest growth, while EHT (Electricals and Home Technology) enjoyed stand-out performances from audio and gaming (up 39%) and large electrical (up 24.5%), with bank holiday deals proving popular.
For Home, ‘Off to Uni’ products rose 9% and furniture and textiles sales “were both particularly strong last week,” according to John Lewis fashion buying director Ed Connolly, “with forward orders also giving us cause to be positive about the coming weeks’ trade.”
He added: “With strong momentum from positive Bank Holiday Monday figures, we ought to be able to reflect on another good performance this time next week.”
