Cookshop chain Steamer Trading has scooped a major award, being named Emerging Retailer of the Year in the prestigious Retail Week 2009 Awards.
The awards judges noted that despite the economic climate, Steamer’s three latest stores had all performed above expectations, and that “sales and profits had continued to grow at an impressive rate”.
Retail Week says the judging panel also “thought this was one homewares retailer which would be able to ride out the recession. They were impressed with its measured expansion strategy, which includes buying freeholds where possible and funding growth from internally-generated cash flow.
“But they were also impressed with the stores, the products, and the service provided by Steamer.”
As one judge noted: “They create something which is really quite special when you go into one of their stores.”
Steamer Trading has just announced that it is to buy the two Marchants Cookware shops, taking its total number of outlets to 20.
