Squires Kitchen claims a Fairtrade first

Fairtrade is about ensuring a fairer deal for farmers and workers in the developing world, which includes better prices, decent working conditions, local sustainability, and fair terms of trade. According to Squires Kitchen, estimated UK retail sales of Fairtrade products in 2013 reached £1.78 billion: a 14% increase on sales of £1.53 billion in 2012.

The company says its SK ready-to-roll sugarpaste (which retails from £1.85) is made using cane sugar grown by smallholder farmers in a number of countries and is ‘premium-quality… perfectly suited to covering cakes of all shapes and sizes, from the smallest of mini cakes to multi-tiered wedding cakes’. It is also gluten-free, dairy-free and suitable for vegetarians.

Established nearly 30 years ago and based in the Surrey town of Farnham, Squires Kitchen manufactures over 2,000 own-brand products for the cake decorating and sugarcraft market worldwide.
