Managing director Charles Bentley said: “During our 150th year we wanted to celebrate with a variety of events that both help our local community whilst putting our products to good use, and at the same time recognise the value of our customers and suppliers.”

One local event now running is an A-level student design competition to be promoted in schools in Charnwood Borough, where the company’s Loughborough base is located. The students have been invited to design a new pattern for a 2010 range of brushes. The winning design will be offered as a promotion to several major retail stores.

The company is also embarking on a broom giveaway in conjunction with Charnwood Council. Local residents need to enrol on the Charnwood garden waste collection scheme, and the first 1860 (marking the year the company was set up) to do so receive a free garden broom.

In the summer, the Bentley Brushware Big Tidy Up litter pick will take place, involving key groups within the community.

Meanwhile, the company will be giving away specially-designed mugs at events, trade shows and other presentations.
