Singer, song-writer and Strictly Come Dancing star Sophie Ellis-Bextor has been announced as the face of ‘Copper Blush’ – the 2015 Colour of the Year predicted by paint brand Dulux.
‘Copper Blush’, was forecast following extensive research by a 20-strong panel of global colour and trend experts who specialise in different areas of colour use, brought together by Dulux’s parent company AkzoNobel.
The result is an annual trend forecast known as ‘Colour Futures’, which depicts five key trends for the year ahead and one true Colour of the Year. 2015 marks the 12th anniversary of ‘Colour Futures’, with ‘Copper Blush’ being the 12th Dulux Colour of the Year. The theme for Colour Futures and this year’s Colour of the Year is the concept of ‘finding the wonderful in the normal’ and ‘discovering the magical in the everyday’.
Sophie appears in a stylised film and a selection of still photography, inspired by pre-Raphaelite art and an Emily Dickinson poem, that depicts her waking in the morning in a contemporary boudoir setting, and then discovering Copper Blush surrounding her.
The film begins with Sophie in a dark teal coloured room, inspired by last year’s Colour of the Year, before she wakes and begins exploring her bedroom. As the story evolves, a new dawn breaks and copper sunlight seeps through the curtains, which bring her surroundings to life and evokes deep and bold colours associated to the Pre-Raphaelite period. The film also includes a voiceover from Sophie as she recites a poem from the same era by Emily Dickinson: ‘To See Her is a Picture’.
Dulux senior colour, design & content manager Rebecca Williamson said: “Copper is a true fashion and interiors favourite for 2015, already making its mark on recent star-studded red carpet appearances and global design events from Stockholm and Milan to Shanghai. The beautifully balanced and dynamic shade of ‘Copper Blush’ suits Sophie’s personality and style effortlessly. Our Colour of the Year breathes warmth into life and Sophie is the perfect choice to showcase the power of colour in this captivating shoot.”
Sophie Ellis-Bextor commented: “Copper really is everywhere at the moment and totally on trend so it’s no surprise that ‘Copper Blush’ is this year’s Colour of the Year. This shade is full of warmth and it was a real pleasure to wake up in such a beautifully styled bedroom setting. I’m also a personal fan of Emily Dickinson’s work and to speak her words in the film was really special to me.”
