SodaStream and Selfridges target bottle waste

London store Selfridges has become the first retailer to sell SodaStream’s new Crystal machine, which comes with its own dining-room-ready glass carafe.

Selfridges will also stock nearly all of the full range of 30 flavours, previously only available online.

The product sits in-store alongside a huge clear-sided bin filled with the average number of plastic beverage bottles a family uses over four years. The bin aims to underline the scale of plastic bottle wastage in the UK and is a continuation of SodaStream’s World Without Bottles campaign which launched in April this year.

SodaStream Crystal blends the convenience of making carbonated beverages at home with a touch of elegance. Using the cut-glass carafe, drinkers are able to create sparkling drinks using water straight from the tap and then serve them immediately at the table.

The starter kit includes the drinks maker and carafe plus a gas carbonator for 60l of drink.

Julian Slim, Selfridges’ director of home and leisure, said: “We’re really excited to be tying up with such an iconic British brand, which has renewed relevance in today’s world. It’s great to see SodaStream leading a worthwhile cause.”
