Slow cooking products hotting up at Waitrose

With the summer weather on hold last week, Waitrose & Partners reports that slow cooking products are hotting up.

The supermarket chain reports that sales of the Waitrose & Partners Slow Cooked range were up 82% last week, with searches for slow cooked on Waitrose.com up by 247% compared with the same period last year.

Jonathan Moore, executive chef at Waitrose & Partners, commented: “In the last few years, we have seen a trend of customers wanting quick meals. However, more recently there is a growing number of consumers looking for the rich textures and flavours of slow cooked products that don’t take hours to cook at home.

“With our range of slow cooked products, we’ve tried to take the time out of a delicious slow cooked meal by doing a lot of the prep before a customer even gets home!”

The newly launched Waitrose & Partners frozen range has built on this trend with the introduction of Italian-Inspired Slow-Cooked Pork Belly, which is cooked ‘sous vide’ for eight hours with garlic, herbs and citrus zest ready to be finished in the oven. Other slow cooked highlights include Slow-Cooked Beef and Ale Pie, Slow-Cooked Beef with Smoked Bacon and Chianti and Slow-Cooked Beef Madras.
