Sistema issues Twist ‘n’ Sip bottle announcement

Housewares supplier Sistema has issued cleaning instructions for its Twist ‘n’ Sip drink bottles after claims by ‘a number of customers’ that the bottle caps are difficult to clean.

One father issued a warning to other parents on Facebook after he claimed his daughter’s Twist ‘n’ Sip bottle cap was ‘hoarding bacteria’.

Sistema’s patented Twist ‘n’ Sip lid allows the bottle to be opened and closed without fingers touching the sipper tip.

A statement on Sistema’s website said: “Recently a number of our customers have advised us that they are having difficulty cleaning our Twist ‘n’ Sip drink bottle caps. We take this feedback very seriously and have therefore posted on our website (www.sistemaplastics.com) videos and instructions that demonstrate how to take apart and clean each of the three tops (Twist ‘n’ Sip, Davina, Wave & Gripper) we currently have on the market.

“We manufacture our tops to meet international child safety standards and it is for this reason they can be difficult to disassemble.

“Sistema is committed to producing products that fulfil all our customers’ needs and our team is currently working on a number of design improvements to ensure our caps meet these criteria.”

To clean Sistema bottle caps, the company recommends that after use, the user removes the cap from the bottle, extends the pop up sipper to the open position and puts the top either in the dishwasher or hand wash and then places it in the water for five minutes with a sterilising solution.

It adds: “Under normal use, this should be sufficient to clean the cap. If you want to thoroughly sterilise them we recommend that you disassemble the top as per our video instructions. There are three styles of Sistema caps currently on the market, please identify which one you have and watch the appropriate video.”
