Simply Nigella: Christmas Special airs next month

Celebrity cook Nigella Lawson is returning to the small screen next month for a one-off Christmas special.

In the hour-long show, which airs on BBC Two on Monday December 14 (at a time to be confirmed), Nigella shares her guide to stress-free festive cooking and easy entertaining – with a line-up of celebratory dishes described as ‘both indulgent and practical’.

Inspired by the sparkling Christmas lights in Kansas City USA, Nigella aims to show viewers how to have their most relaxed and most spectacular Christmas yet. She will introduce them to the local, home-spun food that has inspired some of this year’s favourite festive recipes, adding a British twist back in her kitchen.

Her slow cooked black treacle ham replaces the traditional turkey as the party centre piece, paired with a medley of sweet and sour vegetable slaw.

Sweet treats include a trio of bundt cakes (cider and five spice sponge topped with a salted caramel sauce, followed by a lemon and thyme version, and ending with a pumpkin bundt, adorned with aromatic orange icing) and triple chocolate buckwheat cookies.

Using leftover ham, Nigella creates stir-fried rice with double sprouts, chilli and pineapple, topped with a fried egg. And for wintery nights, Nigella whisks up a green spiced parsnip and spinach soup.
