It’s the sixth year of National Baking Week, and this year the organisers ‘want to stir it up a little’.
According to the website – www.nationalbakingweek.co.uk -‘we’re encouraging people across the UK not to put up with bland, shop-bought baked products. We want people to join the revolution and spend more time baking for themselves, their friends and family’.
Participants are also being encouraged to raise funds for Great Ormond Street Hospital Children’s Charity by baking and selling cakes to colleagues, friends or customers.
‘There’s such a variety of recipes available, we’d like you to try something new and tackle more challenging bakes,’ the website says. ‘This is why this year, we’ve partnered with someone who’s shown that we’re all capable of creating some fantastic and novel recipes in our own kitchens.’
This is a reference to John Whaite, winner of last year’s The Great British Bake Off. To kick things off, he’s produced five recipes, exclusive to National Baking Week.
Supporters of the campaign, which takes place from October 14 to October 20, include Pyrex, Kenwood, Just Milk, Jus-Rol, Billingston’s, Stork and Neilsen-Massey.
