Selfridges has beaten off stiff competition from the likes of Bloomingdale’s and Saks Fifth Avenue to be named the world’s best department store.
Selfridges received the accolade – the second time it has been awarded – at the Global Department Store Summit in New York. Saks Fifth Avenue won the title at the inaugural event last year.
The store’s vice chairman Paul Kelly said: “We’re delighted to have won this very special award and very proud of our teams who have all contributed in making this happen.
“This is very much in recognition of all their hard work. This centenary-old brand, built on the most extraordinary heritage, confirms that Selfridges is the most relevant and exciting department store today.”
Selfridges’ flagship store is in Oxford Street, London, and the company also has a store in Birmingham and two in Manchester.
