Samsung’s ‘next generation’ kitchen appliance arrives in UK

Samsung says its new kitchen appliance, which is ‘set to revolutionise the kitchen’, is available to buy now in the UK.

Hailed as the ultimate luxury smart home appliance, the premium Family Hub Refrigerator aims to provide new ways to shop for, cook and manage food, as well as help plan family life and enhance the home entertainment experience.

Launched in September at IFA, a global trade show for consumer electronics and home appliances held in Berlin, the product is available in two models – the Multi-Door and the Fridge Freezer.

The appliance features a 21.5in full HD LCD resolution screen located on the upper right exterior door which is designed to act as a family’s ‘digital command centre’.

The screen allows users to post, share and update calendars, pin photos, share kids’ works of art, and leave notes for the family, ‘making the refrigerator the hub of the home’.

Three cameras inside the fridge capture an image every time the door closes. Owners can access these images any time using the Samsung Smart Home app (available on iOS and Android) on their smartphone to take a peek inside their fridge while shopping for food at the supermarket, for a real time view of the contents of their refrigerator.

Users can also track expiration dates by entering the number of days their food has left. The number automatically counts down and can be checked via the Food Reminder app on the touchscreen without even opening the door, or via the Samsung Smart Home app.

Owners of the Family Hub will also be able to access recipes created by members of Samsung’s Club des Chefs including the Michelin-starred Michel Roux Jr., as well as thousands of recipes from partners such as Whisk.com, which recommends new recipes based on recipes saved, and the user’s taste profile and diet preferences.

Whisk.com ceo Nick Holzherr said: “At Whisk.com we’re passionate about helping people find the food they love and we’ve always dreamed about an integration directly into smart kitchen appliances. It’s super exciting to see Samsung launch exactly that with the Family Hub Refrigerator – and for Whisk.com to have the opportunity to be part of it.”

Owners can also stream music through the TuneIn radio app via the appliance’s built-in speakers or Bluetooth wireless speakers, and even enjoy their favourite programmes on the Family Hub screen using Screen mirroring with a Samsung Smart TV.

Samsung Electronics UK & Ireland head of product management, domestic appliances, Nick Bevan said: “The kitchen has always been the heart of the home and so we’re delighted to have developed a premium appliance which enhances the way we live our lives, helping to connect families and make juggling family needs that little bit easier.

“Whether you want to bring your kitchen to life with movies and music, co-ordinate with the whole family using one central calendar, or discover recipes and manage your household groceries more efficiently, the Family Hub refrigerator is the ultimate hub for your home.”

The Samsung Family Hub refrigerator is available to purchase from Currys, AO.com, John Lewis and other selected retailers, as well as the Samsung e-store, for an RRP of £4,499.99 for the Multi-Door model and £2,999.99 for the Fridge Freezer model.
