Total sales for John Lewis & Partners for last week (to Saturday January 12) were up 0.7% on last year, driven by customers continuing to shop Clearance offers and starting to shop Spring/Summer ranges.
The department store group’s director of shop trade Maggie Porteous said: “Overall Home sales were down 0.5%. Gifts, Cook and Dine had a strong week with sales up 8.2% on last year, driven by Clearance and Special Buy products. Furniture and Flooring sales were up 2.5% on last year.
“Electrical and Home Technology sales were down 1.2%. Communications Technology sales were up 7.1% primarily due to strong demand for Apple products.
“Fashion sales were up 4.9%. Womenswear Accessories had a particularly strong week with sales up 19.2%. Childrenswear, Nursery and Haberdashery also performed well with sales up 7.3%.”
