Sales and profits boost at Portmeirion

In the year to December 31, revenue at the tableware supplier rose to around £43m from £32m in 2008.

In a statement, Portmeirion said: “Although the reported group revenues are flattered by the dollar to sterling translation rates for our US sales, these revenues nevertheless represent significant volume increases in all three of our major markets: US, UK and Korea.”

Portmeirion acquired the global intellectual property rights of Royal Worcester & Spode last April, after it had gone into administration. At the time, Portmeirion said it expected to achieve some £7m-worth of sales from those brands in 2009.

In the event, Royal Worcester and Spode contributed over £8m.

Portmeirion said that pre-tax profits for 2009 would be above expectations.
