Sainsbury’s opens new supermarket in Kendal

Sainsbury’s opened the doors to its new Kendal supermarket last Wednesday (September 26).

Located on Shap Road in the Cumbrian town, the branch offers branded and own-brand groceries and clothing, along with an in-store bakery and services including an Argos (which stocks more than 20,000 products) and a Specsavers counter offering eye tests, contact lens fittings and a range of glasses. The store also has a 500-space car park and petrol filling station.

From this month, the store will also serve the local community by fulfilling online orders and deliveries. Not only will customers be able to pick up their Argos and Sainsbury’s own-brand Tu clothing orders in-store, they can also use Argos’ fast track delivery and fast track collection: 20,000 products can be ordered for same day collection in store and for home delivery in as little as four hours.

Sainsbury’s always aims to employ people from the local community and the store has created 210 jobs, the majority of which have been taken by people new to the business.

Sainsbury’s Kendal store manager Stuart Butters said: “The new store looks fantastic and we have a great team of colleagues – most of whom are new to Sainsbury’s – who are really excited to welcome and serve customers. Kendal residents can look forward to a distinctive and differentiated choice of quality food as well as access a huge range of Argos products, all under one roof.”

The Kendal store will trade from 7am until 10pm Monday to Saturday and 11am until 5pm on Sundays.
