The names of the 18 finalists of the Roux Scholarship 2016 have been revealed.
Sponsored by Global Knives, the Roux Scholarship is a prestigious cooking competition which invites chefs from all over the UK to compete in a series of cooking challenges, with an aim of winning a life-changing prize.
David Grunwerg, director of housewares supplier Grunwerg and the official distributor of Global Knives, said: “The Roux Scholarship is now in its 32nd year, and as sponsors of the competition from the very beginning, we are very proud to once again support such a great event.
“The Roux Scholarship offers a chance that no other competition in the UK can: to help young chefs climb the ladder to their dream job, whether that is to be promoted to head chef, or to open up their own restaurant.”
The finalists will now go head to head in regional finals which will be held on March 17. They will be split into two groups.
The first group comprises Greg Anderson, chef at Morston Hall; Martin Carabott, The Royal Automobile Club; Gregory Clarke, Midsummer House; Michael Cruickshank, The Montagu Arms Hotel; Scott Dineen, Goldman Sachs; Luke Fouracre, The Royal Oak Paley; Paul Matthews, Fieldfisher; Dimitrios Papapanagioutou, Cliveden House; Tim Peirson, Kensington Place; Jozef Rogulski, The Stafford Hotel; Adam Thomason, Deloitte; Michael Thompson, Fera at Claridge’s, Mayfair. They will be cooking in London to impress judges Alain Roux, Andrew Fairlie, David Nicholls and Simon Hulstone.
The second group includes Joe Bailey, Greenway Hall Golf Club; Ben Champkin, L’Enclume; Harry Guy, Eden Hotel Collection; Adam Harper, Fischer’s; Thomas Moody, Lower Slaughter Manor; and David Scarpato, Celtic Manor Resort. They will be cooking in Birmingham and will be judged by Michel Roux Jnr, Andre Garrett and Steve Love.
Five finalists will then be chosen to compete in the finals on April 4. The winner will be given the opportunity to work in a Michelin star restaurant anywhere in the world for six months. Every major sponsor of the Scholarship, including Global Knives, will also reward the winner with a generous gift.
