The five best housewares retailers in the world, as judged in the Global Innovation Award programme, were announced this week during Chicago’s International Home + Housewares Show.

The 2011-2012 GIA Global Honorees were revealed as Sur La Table of the US, Morandin Regali of Italy, De Bijenkorf of the Netherlands, home&you of Poland and NK Glas, Porslin & Kök of Sweden.

The five retailers were selected from the 25 winners chosen in January in their respective countries. In the UK, the accolade went to the Cook Shop at Barton Grange.

Twelve suppliers of cutting-edge-design products were also announced at the show as the winners of the Global Innovation Awards for product innovation.

In the category of Best Collection Design the Global Honoree is Alessi USA for its Ape collection, while the finalists are fferrone, represented by Wabnitz Editions, for the Revolution collection, Nambe for the Gourmet Kitchen collection and Nikko Ceramics for Bodo Sperlein for the Nikko collection.

The Best Product Design category gave Global Honoree awards to Joseph Joseph for the Twist silicone whisk, Eva Solo for its AquaStar watering can and Design House Stockholm for the Barbara carafe. Finalists in the category were Bosign AB for its Hideaway cable organiser, Hasegawa Kogyo for the Lucano 3 stepstool, Monbento for the Bento MB Original Fuchsia lunch box, Stelton for its Kontra bowl and Storebound for its Maytage removable water tank iron.
