Record November week for John Lewis as Christmas sales surge

The department store retailer says the boom in the week ending Saturday November 24 shows that shoppers are now getting ready for Christmas in earnest.

Last week John Lewis stores hit a total of £109.6m, up 11% on last year and a significant uplift of 19.6% on the previous week. Sales in branches were driven by all three areas of the business, home, fashion and particularly electronics and home technology, while online sales in all areas saw an exceptional hike of 34.6% on the same week last year.

Overall trade on Saturday brought the largest figure ever, clearance aside, for a day for John Lewis – £23.6m.

The company said coffee makers, china, glass, candles and table decorations were amongst the particularly strong performers.
