Rainy Day Trust signs up for banger rally adventure

Industry charity Rainy Day Trust has partnered with VADO to run a banger rally this month.

The event involves purchasing a cheap and cheerful car (with a maximum  value of £500) and driving it from the UK to Monte Carlo, travelling through eight countries.

With 37 cars taking part, the trip runs over four days, starting in Charleroi in Belgium, before driving through Luxembourg to Freiburg in Germany and Como in north-west Italy, before finishing in Monte Carlo.  The teams then drive on to Nice for the awards dinner.

Throughout the rally, the teams will have a series of challenges to complete and all four days will be spent in fancy dress.  Points will be awarded for challenges completed successfully, quality of fancy dress, and age and engine size of the car purchased (the older and more dilapidated the car, the more points it gets).

Each car is targeted with raising money for the Rainy Day Trust and many companies from the industry are sponsoring the teams in what promises to be a major event for the charity.

Rainy Day Trust operates across three sectors (builders merchants, DIY & Hardware and Housewares & Tabletop) which have a combined turnover of more than £50billion and employ close to 500,000 people

The charity’s ceo Bryan Clover will be presenting the award to the team that raises the most money for the Trust.

He said: “We’re entering a car in the September 2016 VADO Rally in aid of the Rainy Day Trust. The charity provides badly needed financial help to people who have worked in the home improvement sector and are struggling to make ends meet.”
