Rainy Day Trust launches advice service with Shelter

Industry charity the Rainy Day Trust (RDT) has announced a 12-month partnership with Shelter, to provide advice to beneficiaries from the home improvement sector that have a housing need.

The 50-year charity Shelter helps millions of people every year struggling with bad housing or homelessness through advice, support and legal services.

The Rainy Day Trust already offers applicants a broad range of support including legal advice and counselling. But it will now provide an extra level of support and specialist housing advice through access to Shelter’s Helpline Plus Service.

RDT ceo Bryan Clover said: “In a time of economic uncertainty, some companies in our industry are tightening budgets, which in turn places an increased burden on families’ budgets and housing needs.

“This new project will help many of our beneficiaries keep a roof over their heads and we look forward to a long and fruitful partnership.”

The Rainy Day Trust operates across three sectors (builders merchants, DIY & hardware and housewares & tabletop) which have a combined turnover of more than £50billion and employ close to 500,000 people.

It is the only charity which exists solely to help people who have worked in these industries, including DIY shops, hardware stores, builders merchants, garden centres, cookshops and all the manufacturers, distributors and retailers in the UK who supply them.
