Housewares supplier Pyrex has conducted a survey to find out what really makes or breaks a dinner party for guests and hosts alike.
Delving into the nation’s dinner party habits, Pyrex discovered that the number one thing we notice most when attending a dinner at a friend or family member’s home is whether the host has nice serving dishes.
A lack of co-ordinated cutlery or crockery and messy surrounding are the second and third most noticed annoyances, with cold food in fourth place.
Despite these results, 72% of guests said they simply enjoy the meal, without secretly critiquing the food and host. However, just over a quarter said they just can’t help giving it a score out of ten.
When hosts were asked to reveal the single worst thing about arranging a dinner party, the top complaint is the stress of preparing a meal for more people than usual, followed by the dread of having too much washing-up. Another fear is not having the correct serving ware or enough place settings for a formal meal.
Pyrex marketing manager Alexandra Blyth, marketing manager said: “It’s interesting to see that servingware and co-ordinated cutlery and crockery were named as the most noticed items at a dinner party above and beyond what should be the main priority – delicious food!”
