Portmeirion Group says Philip Atherton’s recent appointment as sales and marketing director “heralds a new phase in the continuing development and expansion of the company”.
Despite being a new face to the tableware industry, Philip brings a wealth of expertise. He spent 12 years in the drinks industry working in commercial roles with Remy & Associates, The Gaymer Group and Allied Domecq, where he gained extensive experience of working with premium brands.
In 1999 he was appointed sales and marketing director of the John Cotton Group, a family-owned business with 800 employees and annual sales of £125 million. During his time there, was successful in overseeing major sales and profit growth, and acquisitions in both the UK and Europe, as well as building new business.
Welcoming him to the Group, chief executive Lawrence Bryan said: “I’m delighted Phil is joining us. He has a keen understanding of branded businesses and is well experienced in international commerce, which makes him ideally suited to the role.”
Philip said: “Portmeirion Group has a great team who are completely committed to helping us tackle the challenges and taking full advantage of the opportunities that lie ahead. We’ll keep up the momentum of success with our customer-focused approach and then I believe that expansion is the way forward.
“Building the brands, considering acquisitions, and moving into new product areas will see the company grow. We have a very busy time ahead and we’re all looking forward to an exciting and promising future.”
