The first half of the year has delivered an 88% rise in pre-tax profits to just over £1m for Portmeirion.

The Stoke manufacturer, which continues to benefit from its acquisition of the Royal Worcester and Spode brands, also increased sales to £21m from £17m in the same period last year.

The company says business is still tough in the UK, but US sales in the six months grew from £5.9m to £7.1m while in South Korea the figure rose from £3.7m to £4.8m.

Portmeirion has brought some manufacturing back to Stoke from overseas, and has continued to recruit this year. It now employs over 500 people.
