Philips launches 'world's first' ironing parties

The small electricals supplier has recruited 200 consumers from across the UK to host Philips PerfectCare ironing parties in their own homes, and has teamed up with party organiser Come Round to arrange the events.

Each host receives a Party Pack including a PerfectCare steam generator and is required to invite friends and family to take part in ironing challenges which showcase the benefits of the product. There is no pressure to purchase, with guests receiving information on where they can buy the product.

Philips customer marketing manager for garment care Gemma McHenry said: “People are more relaxed in their own homes. We know from our research that trial of PerfectCare really helps to demonstrate the benefits that the technology provides, and peer to peer recommendations are far more powerful than a one-way sales pitch.

“In the real world everyone who comes to the party will tell at least 10 others, and through Facebook and Twitter they reach many more. We hope that by bringing this new experience to people’s homes we’ll drive awareness and understanding of our great quality products – while giving ironing some fun personality at the same time!”
