Burgon & Ball’s RHS Gifts for Gardeners’ gift set has been selected by American media personality Oprah Winfrey as one her ‘Favourite Things’ for 2018.
Oprah is an actress, television producer and philanthropist, best known for her talk show ‘The Oprah Winfrey Show’, which was the highest-rated television programme of its kind in history and was nationally syndicated from 1986 to 2011 in Chicago.
‘Oprah’s Favourite Things’ was an annual segment that appeared on the show. In the segment, which aired during Thanksgiving week and was inspired by the song ‘My Favourite Things’ from the musical ‘The Sound of Music’, Oprah shared products with her audience that she felt were noteworthy or would make great gifts. In addition, the audience members that were present during the taping of the episode received items from that year’s list for free.
The list of Oprah’s ‘best gifts to get your loved ones’ is now published on www.OprahMag.com and the 2018 roll-call comprises 107 items.

Oprah explained on her website: “Once upon a time, during the Oprah show days, I discovered some very comfy red-checkered flannel pajamas and some unbelievably cozy shearling-lined boots that kept my feet warm on even the most chilling Chicago days. I adored those pajamas. And those Uggs. I wanted everyone I knew to experience and adore them, too. So I bought them for everyone I worked with, which at the time was about 490 people.
“When I ran out of people I knew, I wanted to keep sharing – with everyone who knew me. Thus the idea of ‘Favourite Things’. These days, choosing my Favourite Things makes me a little cuckoo. What started as an organic extension of wanting to treat people to some things I truly loved has turned into an annual list that takes a team to curate.
“I then go through every item, picking my favourites and narrowing the selection to my own. It’s a process. Because it’s important for me to remain as true to my original inspiration as possible. My guideline: do I really like it enough to want to receive it myself?”
