A great little product is now available in the UK once more thanks to a cookshop’s plea to HousewaresLive.net, a subsequent SOS on the website and some very fast action by a supplier.
Chris Lynn-Thomas, owner of Kooks Unlimited in Richmond, Surrey asked HousewaresLive.net to find out if anyone knew who now supplies Oliver Hemming’s colourful Spice Boy mills – which she described as “marvellous. They disappeared and it’s a shame because they sold,”she said.
Soon after we ran the story last week, someone who identified herself simply as Sarah from the homewares and giftware website Dream Icons helpfully posted a comment to say that there was no UK supplier now as the previous one had recently stopped selling the products and that there was no replacement. “Frustrating isn’t it,” she added.
It certainly was, but then a comment came in from DK Europe managing director Rolf Jackson, saying that he could get hold of the mills as he knew the brand owner.
Then yesterday, events really started to speed up. HousewaresLive.net received an email from Rolf at 2.50pm saying: “I am speaking to the owners of the brand about my UK company taking the exclusive EU distribution of the Oliver Hemming grinders.”
At 3.30pm he sent another email: “I have just spoken to them and we have them exclusively for Autumn Fair in a few weeks. Please give me 24 hours and I will have a stand number for your readers.”
But then just 40 minutes later we had this: “Things are moving swiftly… we will be exclusively presenting the Oliver Hemming Spice Boy grinders on Brugo UK’s stand in Hall 2, Stand D10.
“UK and ROI exclusivity was tied up this afternoon… rapidly,” Rolf went on. And he added: “If it wasn’t for HousewaresLive.net then the Oliver Hemming Spice Boy grinders would not be at Autumn Fair and the UK would have lost a fantastic brand for this fourth quarter.”
