New finance director for Squire’s Garden Centres

Squire’s Garden Centres has appointed Mark Wilson as finance director. He succeeds Steven Palmer who retired at the end of April after eight years of service.

Mark worked for Unilever for nearly 25 years in a variety of finance, buying and corporate strategy roles, and was employed for 10 years as finance director at Vitacress: a family-owned supplier of fresh produce to the grocery trade.

Squire’s managing director Martin Breddy said: “Mark is very familiar with our business, having lived for many years near our Woking garden centre [in Surrey]. He is now based in Fleet [in Hampshire], near our Badshot Lea garden centre [in Surrey] and the group office.

“He joins Squire’s with extensive knowledge and experience. The team and I look forward to working closely with him to continue developing and growing the successful family business.”

Squire’s Garden Centres celebrated its 80th anniversary in 2016. Over the years it has developed from a small nursery and landscape gardening business founded by D.J. Squire, to a retail group with 15 garden centres and café bars.
