New ambassador for National Home Improvement Month

National Home Improvement Month has recruited BBC presenter, DIY enthusiast and property developer Georgina Burnett to be an official ambassador.

The aim of the campaign is to encourage UK consumers to improve one area of their home during the month of April, ‘to make their house the haven they have always dreamed of’.

Georgina said: “I’m so excited about inspiring people to make at least one change to their homes in April. It’s so important to love our homes, because if we don’t have that harmonious space to call our own, it impacts negatively on the rest of our lives. Just one small change can make such a huge difference to how we feel about our homes. It also becomes very addictive once you start to make improvements.”

Her passion and expertise for DIY and home improvement is demonstrated on her blog ‘The Home Genie’. Her most recent completed project is a seven-bed town house in the Kent town of Sevenoaks, which is to due to be featured in ‘25 Beautiful Homes’ magazine.

National Home Improvement Week is a BHETA (British Home Enhancement Trade Association) initiative under license from The Relations Group. BHETA is a trade body for manufacturers, suppliers and distributors in the home enhancement market, including the DIY, garden and housewares sectors.

According to BHETA, only 28% of Brits carry out home improvements more than once a year – with the main attributing reasons being expense and a lack of DIY skills. When it comes to individual tasks, 52% do not feel comfortable applying wallpaper and almost half (48%) are unsure how to put a shelf up.

Georgina commented: “I’m not sure that the nation has lost their love for home improvement, but maybe a boost in motivation is what is needed. It can be so rewarding, and you only need to start with small changes to see a big impact and the satisfaction that follows.”

BHETA home improvement director Paul Grinsell said: “We’re delighted that Georgina is behind the National Home Improvement Month consumer awareness campaign for April. She will be fronting, supporting and underpinning the activity of 22 leading brands of BHETA members collaborating and sponsoring this industry initiative.

“They include Yale, Fiskars, Nilfisk, Sherwin Williams brands Valspar and Ronseal, Husqvarna brands Gardena, Flymo and McCulloch, Croydex, Doulton Water Filters, ZEP UK, Urfic UK, LG Harris, Gorilla Glue, Shurtape and Schneider Electric.

“Their mission is to motivate, encourage and enthuse consumers that home improvement is rewarding emotionally, psychologically and financially – with the right advice, information and products.”
