Fortunately, Leonardo da Vinci’s 500-year-old masterpiece was undamaged as the mug shattered against the bullet-proof glass protecting the portrait.

The offending mug was reportedly made in England, but Louvre staff did not reveal the name of the manufacturer.

The owner of the mug, a Russian woman, was said to be upset over her failure to be granted French citizenship. She was taken away for psychiatric tests but was later released.
