Millions take part in Amazon’s biggest Prime Day yet

The UK joined 16 other countries around the world yesterday to celebrate Prime Day 2018 (Tuesday July 17), Amazon’s exclusive shopping event for Prime members.

Prime Day 2018 was the busiest shopping event of the year so far on, with millions of items ordered. This year’s Prime Day was extended to 36 hours – offering a day and a half of deals.

Some of the most popular items snapped up on included Echo Dot, Fire TV Stick with Alexa Voice Remote, Finish dishwasher tablets, Bosch cordless drill, Andrex Supreme Quilt toilet roll and The Greatest Showman (DVD)

Amazon UK country manager Doug Gurr said: “Prime Day was created to say thank you to our customers and has become an epic shopping event that Prime members in the UK look forward to each year. Hundreds of small and medium-sized businesses also experienced success on Prime Day with some of our most popular deals purchased from sellers.”

Best-selling products bought from selling partners included the Anker Soundcore 2 Bluetooth speaker, AncestryDNA Genetic Testing kit and the VonShef food processor

In total customers bought more than: 500,000 toys, 65,000 sets of headphones,190,000 pet products, 287,000 items of clothing, 400,000 beauty products, 248,000 lawn and garden products and 59,000 sports tech items.

UK Prime members receive unlimited one-day delivery on millions of items across all categories; unlimited same-day delivery on more than a million items in London, Surrey, Berkshire, Birmingham, Bristol, Manchester, Liverpool, Leeds, Milton Keynes, Glasgow, and Edinburgh; and same-day delivery slots with Prime Now at no extra charge between 8am and 10pm across more than 30% of the UK population in selected postcodes in Birmingham, Glasgow, Hertfordshire, Manchester, Newcastle, Leeds, Liverpool, London, Portsmouth, Surrey and South Yorkshire.
