Cookery book author, AGA doyenne and star of TV’s ‘The Great British Bake Off’ Mary Berry CBE has been awarded an honorary degree by Bath Spa University in recognition of her extraordinary contribution to cookery.
The honorary degree was presented by Vice-Chancellor Professor Christina Slade at the University’s graduation ceremony on Friday July 20. Mary is pictured with Christina discussing a recipe after the graduation ceremony.
Commenting on her award, Mary said: “I am immensely proud to be given an honorary degree from Bath Spa University. My school days in Bath were fun, but I didn’t leave with flying colours so this is a real honour and surprise! Bath College of Domestic Science were wonderful times for me and gave me a footing for my career.”
Mary is one of the UK’s best-known and respected cookery writers and TV cook. She has written more than 70 cookery books, selling more than five million copies around the world. She has hosted several television series for the BBC and is a judge on ‘The Great British Bake Off’, which returns to the screen next month. Mary is also a huge fan of AGA cookers and author of many books dedicated to AGA cooking.
Mary was recognised in the Queen’s Birthday Honours list earlier this year with a CBE.
