Luxurious Emerald is Pantone Colour of the Year

Global colour authority Pantone today announced its Emerald as 2013 Colour of the Year.

Luxurious Emerald is Pantone Colour of the Year

The company predicts that the shade will be seen next year throughout the worlds of fashion, beauty and home interiors, where it is expected to appear on everything from walls, bedlinen and towels to dinnerware, stemware and appliances.

Pantone 17-5641 Emerald, a vivid, lush green, follows on from Tangerine Tango as 2012’s Colour of the Year, which, it says, provided the energy boost needed to recharge and move forward. Sophisticated and luxurious, Emerald enhances a sense of well-being further by inspiring insight, as well as promoting balance and harmony.

“The most abundant hue in nature, the human eye sees more green than any other colour in the spectrum,” said Leatrice Eiseman, executive director of the Pantone Color Institute. “As it has throughout history, multifaceted Emerald continues to sparkle and fascinate.

“Symbolically, Emerald brings a sense of clarity, renewal and rejuvenation, which is so important in today’s complex world. This powerful and universally-appealing tone translates easily to both fashion and home interiors.”

To pick its Colour of the Year, Pantone seeks colour influences from a diverse range of sources, including the entertainment industry and films that are in production, travelling art collections, hot new artists, popular travel destinations and other socio-economic conditions.

Influences may also stem from technology, availability of new textures and effects that impact colour, and even upcoming sports events that capture worldwide attention.
