A skillet, a blender and a rice cooker walked away with the three newly-introduced Best of the Best awards at this month’s US housewares industry Housewares Design Awards.

The inaugural Best of the Best accolades were awarded at Gold, Silver and Bronze levels, in addition to the 13 Best in Category awards.

Best of the Best Gold went to the Signature Series 12in seasoned cast iron skillet with stainless steel handles from Lodge Manufacturing Company, which was also the winner in the Cookware & Bakeware category.

Taking Best of the Best Silver was the Breville die-cast hemisphere blender, having won in the Food Preparation Electrics category, while Zojirushi America’s Rizo Micom rice cooker and warmer won Best of the Best Bronze, having been the winner in the Cooking Electrics category.

The other category winners were: Cutlery – Douglas Quikut/Ginsu 12-piece Chikara cutlery set; Floor Care Electrics – Robert Thomas Rotho Twin TT; Home Organization, Laundry Care & Non-Electric Cleaning Products – Casabella bamboo broom; Kitchen Hand Tools – Trudeau Corp Flipper 4-in-1 measuring spoon; Kitchenware & Barware – Metrokane flip-top cocktail shaker; Tabletop – Bambu Kids baby utensils; Lighting, Home Décor & Outdoor Living – Outset magnetic light for barbecue tools; Home Environment Electrics – Swizz Style Max fan heater; Personal Care, Health Care and Garment Care Electrics – Revlon Expert Effect All-Around Pumice Stone; and Furniture – Avenue Six Curves button back chair.

An independent panel of judges evaluated products based on functionality, aesthetics, innovative materials and technology, user benefits and market response.

Products judged were introduced to the US market between October 1 2006 and September 30 2007.

The Housewares Design Awards are presented by HomeWorld Business magazine with support from the International Housewares Association.
