Lakeland launches new-look Windermere flagship store today

Following a £1 million pound investment, Lakeland is revealing a new look for its flagship store in Windermere today (Friday May 27).

The store, which welcomes over half a million customers a year through its doors, will be officially unveiled by Malcolm King: Lakeland’s longest serving employee, who started working for the specialist retailer straight out of school and has been part of the team for almost 45 years.

The 69-strong housewares chain said: ‘Our flagship store has been transformed to bring you the latest retail technology and offer the very best shopping experience.’

The new store is described as lighter, brighter, and home to thousands of kitchen products as well as solutions for all around the home, seasonal essentials and gifts including ‘over 1,500 pieces of bakeware and enough kitchen foil and clingfilm to stretch all the way around Lake Windermere’.

At the centre of the 12,200sq ft store is a state of the art kitchen where shoppers can watch product demonstrations and ‘get hands on with the newest and most innovative products on the market’. Thw First Floor Cafe has had a makeover too.

Lakeland is a family run company, founded in the Lake District over 50 years ago where it remains to this day, with a head office and flagship store in Windermere and Distribution Centre in nearby Kendal. The installation of a new in-store history wall celebrates Lakeland’s local heritage, showcasing its development and growth.

Windermere store manager Robin Moffat said: “We’re delighted to be unveiling our fabulous new store for the first time. Myself and the team can’t wait to welcome our customers into our new store and, as it wouldn’t be a Lakeland celebration without cake, we have plenty of cupcakes and a few glasses of bubbly ready to help us celebrate together.”

Director of retail Bob Granger added: “Lakeland is continuing to undertake an extensive refit programme, with many of our 69 stores up and down the country being modernised and improved with our customers in mind every step of the way.

“We’ve incorporated customer feedback and the latest technology into our new-look Windermere store and it’s incredibly exciting to be opening our doors after 12 months of planning and five months on site. We hope our customers will love the new shopping experience as much as we do.”
