As eco-conscious consumers continue to look for alternative ways to reduce plastic consumption, Lakeland has announced it is the first UK retailer to launch the GOpure Pod: a portable water-purifying pod.
The housewares chain said: ‘Plastic bottles are the most common plastic packaging by weight, with 41% of those bottles not currently being recycled. The GOpure Pod, which is already a huge hit in the US, can purify, protect and preserve up to 1,000 litres of tap water, which is equivalent to 2,000 standard size single-use plastic water bottles.
‘Simply pop the GOpure capsule into tap water and millions of microscopic pores go to work. Using PuriBloc Technology, a ceramic tube with a natural positive charge acts like a magnet to draw impurities into the filter, while releasing valuable trace elements into the water. This filtration power comes from an unlimited, renewable resource that has served as “nature’s filter” for 20 million years: diatomaceous earth.
‘Within seconds, any contaminants in ordinary tap water are neutralised, resulting in great-tasting water. And unlike carbon water filters that only work once, PuriBloc technology works continuously through a natural process known as ionic exchange, so it will keep making water fresh and great-tasting for up to six months. A little silver zeolite within the GOpure capsule maintains the hygiene of the ceramic over the course of its use.
‘The GOpure Pod will fit into almost any reusable drinking bottle on the market, and can be used in coffee machine reservoirs, jugs, carafes and insulated flasks – so you can purify tap water anywhere you travel, from shopping trips to marathon training, campsites to cruise liners.
