Kitchen and Things opens in Bury St Edmunds

The Newmarket kitchenware and giftware retailer Kitchen and Things has opened a second outlet this month, in Bury St Edmunds.

The 1,200sq ft shop offers an extensive range of Kitchen Craft, Horwood and Rayware products, as well as its own imported ranges of Spanish terracotta oven-to-tableware and cookware. It also sells giftware such as mirrors, photo frames and ornaments.

Darren Butler and his wife Emma have had the shop in Newmarket for just under 20 years and also trade at some 40 events around the country. They have wanted to open a second shop in Bury for some time, but it is only now that more empty shops are available in the town that it has been possible.

The new shop is in Brentgovel Street, a stone’s throw from St Johns Street and the successful Marchants Cookware Emporium cookshop. However, Darren Butler told HousewaresLive.net that the two would not be competitors.

“We’re completely different,” he said, “they’re full-on cookshop. You can go in there and spend £500 on a coffee machine. With us it’s all mid range and middle of the road. We sell gifts, not just kitchenware. If we were worried about it we would never have opened up.”

A former employee in the Newmarket store has been appointed manager of the Bury shop.
