John Lewis weekly sales up 6.9%

The half term school holiday provided the backdrop to a strong week’s trade for John Lewis, with sales for the week to February 20 up 6.9% at £75.15m.

The department store group’s head of retail development Mark Blundell said home sales climbed  7.8%, ‘with good performances in big ticket products as customers continue to invest in their homes’. Furniture led the way with growth in both upholstery and beds.

EHT (Electricals & Home Technology) posted a sales rise of 11.1%, driven by Microsoft products and TV soundbars.

Mark Blundell concluded: “In the week ahead, our shops and online channels continue to showcase the new spring and summer season assortments and with Mother’s Day a week away, there are plenty of reasons to be positive.”
