John Lewis seeks musician for Christmas Day TV

John Lewis has announced plans to give one aspiring music artist a Christmas they will never forget.

The department store group is encouraging members of the public to follow in Lily Allen’s footsteps and record a version of the soundtrack to its new Christmas advert. The winning entry will then be used to soundtrack a special edition of the advert that will be aired on Christmas Day.

The retailer’s ‘Reworked’ initiative calls on up and coming singers and musicians to upload videos of their version of the Keane track at youtube.com/JohnLewisRetail. The winner, who will be chosen by a panel that includes Keane, will be given an all-expenses paid trip to London where they will record the track in a professional studio with the producer of Lily Allen’s ‘Somewhere Only We Know’ cover, Paul Beard.

The recording will then feature in a 90-second version of John Lewis’ Christmas advert which will be shown live on ITV1 on December 25.

Craig Inglis, marketing director at John Lewis, said: “In previous years we’ve been overwhelmed by the number of people sending and uploading their versions of songs from our Christmas ads. This year, with the support of Lily Allen and Keane, we want to give someone a Christmas they’ll never forget – the chance to hear their song on our advert on Christmas Day. Absolutely anybody can take part – we’re really looking forward to seeing the entries come in!”

A video message from Lily Allen can be found at youtube.com/JohnLewisRetail, where video entries can be uploaded. The competition closes on December 3 and a winner will be chosen by December 6.
