John Lewis today announced that it will open a further two At Home shops this year, in Swindon and Tunbridge Wells.
With a combined investment of £16m, the new John Lewis At Home stores will open in the autumn, taking the total number of standalone homewares outlets to four. The retailer is scheduled to open its second in Croydon in the summer, following the successful launch of the John Lewis At Home format in Poole last October.
The two new stores will create around 350 new jobs.
John Lewis managing director Andy Street said the company would continue to trial John Lewis At Home format throughout 2010 “as we believe there is a really strong opportunity to grow our business in the home and electricals sector. We know our competitors have a much higher level of coverage in the UK, and our smaller-format shops will give our customers convenient access to John Lewis products.”
John Lewis At Home focuses exclusively on housewares, furniture, furnishing accessories, electrical and home technology, and has helped John Lewis expand its customer base.
