John Lewis posts ‘good uplift’ in weekly sales

Sales at John Lewis last week (to Saturday January 28) were £72.5 million: up 3.7% on last year.

The department store group’s operations director Dino Rocos described the result as “a good uplift for the final week of the trading year”.

All three buying areas posted increases, with fashion leading the way, up 5.5%. Within fashion, the new season was starting to see an impact as womenswear was up 11.4% and menswear was up 3.8%.

Home was up 1.9%, with textiles and carpets up 3.9% and furniture up 2.3%.

In EHT (Electricals & Home Technology), communication technology performed well, with Apple and Microsoft products helping the category to post a 4.3% increase.
