A decision on whether to roll out the new John Lewis at Home format will be made in March.
The first outlet, which focuses solely on homewares, opened in Poole in October and has been trading ahead of forecasts.
John Lewis believes that a chain of between 30 and 50 home stores could be viable, with around five openings a year.
Meanwhile, John Lewis is predicting a strong performance by its department stores during the Christmas period. It forecasts like-for-like growth of 7 to 7.5% in the quarter to the end of January.
