Bookmaker William Hill has put odds of 10-1 on the soundtrack to the John Lewis Christmas television ad becoming the Christmas No 1.

It is a cover of Elton John’s Your Song by Brit award winner Ellie Goulding.

The ad was broadcast on television for the first time last Saturday night during a commercial break in ITV1’s X-Factor – with approximately 12m viewers tuned in. And, coincidentally that night’s X-Factor theme was Elton John songs.

Featured presents in the 60-second ad include an Emma Bridgewater polka-dot teapot, top toy performers Butterscotch Pony and Le Toy Van Honey Bake Kitchen Set, a knitted Christmas stocking and Celia Birtwell watering can, handbag and twin candlesticks.
