A month after topping Tesco’s Christmas recipe book chart, beating the previous winner Jamie Oliver into second place, Joe Wickes has now knocked fitness enthusiast Davina McCall off the top spot for fitness DVDs and into third place.
Wick’s ‘Lean In 15’ DVD is so popular that he’s sold nearly twice as many copies as his nearest rival, Britain’s new reality show sweetheart Scarlett Moffatt.
Past fitness DVD winners have included ‘Geordie Shore’ actress Charlotte Crosby and ‘EastEnders’ actress Natalie Cassidy. But no one has topped the chart more times than Davina, who has been queen of fitness DVDs three times.
Tesco DVD buyer Sophie Cockrill said: “What an incredible 12 months it’s been for Joe, taking both the recipe book and fitness DVD charts by storm.
“Knocking the Queen of fitness off the top spot is almost as tough as one of his ab work outs!
“It is widely acknowledged that whoever caps the charts by mid-January holds the title of Fitness King or Queen of Britain.”
The supermarket chain said that in the past 10 years, fitness DVDs have become a major industry in themselves, with the UK market now worth nearly £9.5 million a year according to data from the British Video Association released this month.
The UK’s top 5 selling fitness DVDs are:
- Joe Wicks – The Body Coach – Lean In 15
- Scarlett Moffatt – Scarlett’s Superslim Me
- Davina – 30 Day Fat Burn
- Lorraine Kelly – Brand New You
- Zumba Slimdown Party
